The Green Music Network Presents

Kirtan Community

'come sing your heart in'

August 20th or September 27th

As a GMN friend said,

"Just as naturally tuned instruments enable out culture's realignment to nature through music,

Kirtan enables our body's realignment with spirit though singing."

Kirtan, an ancient practice of call and response singing, using Sanskrit mantras,

is a communal prayer and joyous experience of spirit through song.

By donation only, the last Sunday of each month, with a rotating schedule of venues around the bay area, and featuring a series of Kirtan musicians and hosts.

We encourage Pre-Registration!

Letting us know you are coming helps us in planning these events  effectively. We will have 20 seats to start with, so if you are able to  bring a comfortable cushion or zazen bench, please do but not required.  Thank you for your support.  Musical hosts are paid  from donations at the event.

To reserve a seat, please rsvp to Jonathan at 415.258.9459Include names of all attending.

Recruiting Kirtan Community Coordinator

The Kirtan Community program now has three assistant volunteers. We need someone who has a passion for Kirtan to lead our assistants, and work with musicians and hosts to develop the program. It's a great opportunity to connect with music and spirit in service.

Kirtan meets Natural Resonance?
This Kirtan event combines the power of Bhakti chanting with instruments of natural resonance
played by masters of their craft. Teed Rockwell is a truly remarkable Warr Guitar player (no frets) while Goyo Aranaga is a former jazz keys player who is now playing a range of world instruments with wonderfully sensitive touch and intention in support of the Bhakti experience.

Alan Tower will lead most chants on a Modified Shruti Box retuned for resonance while providing the ability to indicate western chord changes for bringing the worlds of east and west together in harmony.

What is Kirtan?

Just as our mission is about realignment with nature through music, KIRTAN enables the realignment of our being as spirit through singing. Kirtan is an ancient practice of singing based on Sanskrit mantras, providing a communal prayer and joyous experience of spirit through song. Feel the freedom of singing as source to source in a community of wonderful people in the homes of our generous hosts.

If you are interested in getting in involved in planning and orchestrating Kirtan here in the Bay Area with Green Music Network please step forward!  We have some REALLY exciting ideas we are working on and can provide you with training in exchange for your help in realizing the potential for Kirtan to flourish. Please contact atower@greenmusicnetwork.org
